Spinning clay on a potter’s wheel can be a very meditative experience that can lull one into a state of bliss. I try to capture this joy and love for the medium in each piece, so the final work has a human quality of both imperfection and grace. I find that I am always striving to make a perfect piece, to make something flawless, but that it is actually in its flaws and imperfections that I see its beauty.
I never make just one piece, I work in series, or families of vessels that speak to each other and make a collection of objects that are more powerful in a group than on their own. I strive to make work that is accessible and enjoyable to anyone, but that is unique and surprising in its surface and form. My work is a celebration of the freedom and privilege that I feel to be an artist, to have my hands in the clay and create. I hope to make pots that people love to live with, and that bring a sense of life and vitality to any space.
